Various Mechatronics Design Projects

This page contains a running database of interesting practical projects I’ve conducted. Click on the images below to read more about each project. The first one listed here was part of a longer-term project that involved the development of a unique aerial vehicle. It went through many design iterations and included a lot of varied experiments using custom testing setups. The other three were part of a university mechatronics design course that involved a series of fast-paced design projects intended for acquiring practical implementation skills and to reinforce theoretical concepts taught in class. These were not meant to be polished designs and builds, but rather rapidly-built prototypes to be constructed, tested, and evaluated within a span of two days to no more than a week, using whatever tools and components were made available in the lab. The focus here was on proper functionality as well as obtaining proficiency in rapid prototyping, testing, and modification – skills that have since been invaluable in my later endeavors. While I no longer have images saved from many of the other projects I’ve conducted in the past, I shall continue to update this page based on those I get involved with moving forward.

Project1

01

A Novel VTOL Aerial Vehicle

A Vertical Take-Off and Landing (VTOL) vehicle controlled using only two actuators based on a novel rotor design.

02

The Acrobat Robot

A self-balancing, 2-wheeled, differential drive robot that uses real-time data from an IMU to control wheel torques in order to maintain an upright posture.

Project2
Project3

03

The Labyrinth Robot

A mobile robot designed to carry a payload through a maze to a destination using wired control.

04

The "Stalker"

A rotary device designed to autonomously search for and find an infrared beacon within its detection range.
